Iris was our November Positive Jaguar of the Month for second grade! She earned our class an extra recess!

Thank you Iris for being a positive role model!

Our class earned their first classroom party!

Their goal was to earn 15 marbles. 

After a class vote, we will be having a pizza and pajama party!

This party will be this Friday, November 17th!

Your child can wear their pajamas to school if they want.

I will provide pizza at the end of the day as an afternoon snack. They should still pack their own lunch or take hot lunch as normal.

It's Conference sign up time! 

A sign up will be coming out today via Skyward. In addition to the two conference dates (11/16 and 11/20 from 4-8 pm), I am available to conference before school between 8 and 8:30 and during my prep time between 3 and 3:30. 

If you would prefer to schedule a conference with me during the day in November, please send me an email with a few possible dates and times you prefer. I know night conferences can be difficult for many so I am willing to meet outside of those two conference times and dates.

Our current math unit is Geometry.

We are studying the faces of 3D shapes.

Today many of us practiced counting the faces in Play-Doh....

2nd Grade Parent Information

Tomorrow is our field trip! We are all very excited to go to Riveredge Nature Center on Thursday, September 21.

Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather with appropriate walking shoes or boots. We will be outside for the entire field trip. 

Lunch is before we leave so students can take hot lunch, get a milk, or bring their own cold lunch.

Looks like great weather is predicted for tomorrow!

It's been a very fun first week of getting to know our class! 

We have done various team building activities to learn more about one another.

We read this book and talked about what makes Thorson a Fine, Fine School.

Outside we played "I Like My Neighbor Who..."

Welcome Back 2nd Graders!

I am excited for the 2017-2018 school year! Looking forward to our first week together!

On Wednesday we had meteorologist Lindsey Slater from WISN 12 come and talk to our second graders more about weather. We recorded a video that will be on TV for a school shout out. Here is the information from the news station on when to watch:

 

“We will air Thorson Monday, May  22. Please record all of WISN 12 News This Morn from 4:30 to 7. It usually airs around 5:25am and 6:25am.
Occasionally we move elements in the newscast-so, it's important to record the entire newscast.”

Water Cycle

Today we had Riveredge come to teach us more about the water cycle. It was a lot of fun spending some time outside learning!

Coin Drive to benefit the NEW Playground!

All money collected will go to playground fund.  We are getting closer to seeing a change in the playground but need help.

Dates: February 20-27

Parents may write checks to Thorson PTO with memo playground fund also.

Prizes:  Classroom that collects the most earns a pizza party.

Any classroom that raises $350 or more dollars will earn an extra recess.

Solids, Liquids, and Gases

This week in Science we have been investigating properties of matter. Ask your child what we observed about properties of liquids.

Also, we did an investigation about objects that sink and float. Ask your child how they got their ball of clay to float!

Poetry 

We will be starting our weekly poetry next week. Students will need a small 1/2 inch binder or a folder with prongs in the middle to hold their poems. Please send to school as soon as possible. We will be having our first poem on Friday.
